Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026. This is a draft policy and should be reviewed by a qualified professional before you rely on it.
1. Who we are
Synswer is an answer engine. You type a question and it replies with a short explanation written by an AI model. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the Synswer team.
2. What we collect
- Your questions. The text you type into the ask box.
- Technical data. Basic request information such as IP address, browser type and time of request, used to run the service, prevent abuse and enforce rate limits.
- Your cookie choice. Stored in your browser so we do not ask you again.
- Account details (optional). If you create an account, we store your name, email address and a securely hashed password, plus a session cookie that keeps you signed in.
- Saved memory (signed-in users only). After each answer, we save a short note with your question and the gist of the answer, linked to your account. We search these notes by meaning on later questions to personalise answers.
- Files and photos you attach (optional). Text-style files (.txt, .csv, .md, .json) are read in your browser and their text, up to the first 20,000 characters, is sent to the AI model with your question. They are not stored by us. Images are uploaded to a private folder, only for signed-in users, and sent to the AI model so it can describe them and answer your question.
- Voice input (optional). If you press Speak, your browser's built-in speech recognition turns your voice into text. Depending on your browser, the audio may be processed by your browser vendor's speech service under its own privacy policy. We receive only the resulting text, which is used as your question. We do not store audio.
- Last question on this device. Your most recent question is kept in your browser's local storage so we can offer to ask it again when you return. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
- Community posts, replies and votes. If you use the Social page, we store your posts and replies, your likes and dislikes, and your permanent user ID, which is shown next to what you write. Posts are checked by an automated AI moderation step before they are published. If you report a post or reply, we store your user ID, what you reported and your reason so admins can review it. We also keep your community standing (active or banned).
- Game scores. If you save a score, we store the name you enter, the score and the game.
You do not need an account to use Synswer. Without one, nothing about your questions is saved by us beyond technical logs, and follow-up context lives only in your open page.
3. How your question is used
When you ask a question, three things happen:
- Your question is sent from your browser to Wikipedia's public search service to find a few relevant articles. Wikipedia receives the question text and your IP address under its own privacy policy.
- If your question looks time-sensitive, our AI service searches the live web for it on our servers, and the pages it used are listed under the answer.
- Your question and short excerpts of those articles are sent to an AI model, which writes the answer in its own words.
- The security check on the form runs in your browser and confirms you are not an automated program.
- Your question may also be sent from your browser to DuckDuckGo (instant answers), Hacker News (Algolia), Stack Exchange (Stack Overflow) or Crossref to find related summaries, discussions, questions or papers. Each receives the question text and your IP address under its own policy.
- Earlier questions from your current visit are included with each new question so follow-ups make sense. If you are signed in, relevant saved memory notes are included too.
Please do not include personal, confidential or sensitive information in your questions.
4. Why we use it
We use this data to provide answers, keep the service secure and fast, limit abuse, and understand how the site is used if you accept analytics cookies. We do not sell your data and we do not use your questions for advertising.
5. Cookies and local storage
Essential storage keeps the site working and remembers your cookie choice. If you click Accept, we may also use tools that help us understand how visitors use Synswer. If you click Decline, we do not use those optional tools. You can clear your browser storage at any time to reset your choice.
5a. Advertising
If you click Accept on the cookie bar, Synswer loads Google AdSense, which may show ads (for example in the Games and Social pages) and may use cookies to choose and measure them. If you click Decline, or make no choice, the advertising script is not loaded. We do not give Google your questions, posts or account details.
6. Sharing
We share data only with the services needed to run Synswer: our hosting and AI providers, and the public lookup services named above (Wikipedia, DuckDuckGo, Hacker News, Stack Exchange and Crossref). We may disclose information if the law requires it.
7. Retention
We keep technical logs only as long as needed for security and operations. Synswer does not publish your questions or show them to other visitors.
Images you upload stay in a private folder until we delete them, and are not shown to other visitors. Please do not upload images containing personal or sensitive information. Downloads of answers are created in your browser and are not sent to us.
Saved memory notes stay until you delete them. Signed-in users can press "Clear my saved memory" on the answer page at any time to remove them. Account details are kept until you ask us to delete your account. Saved game scores are public on the leaderboards.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its use. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
8a. Applicable law
This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, including its data protection legislation as it applies to us from time to time.
9. Children
Synswer is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
11. Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent to the Synswer team at synswerai@gmail.com.
